So, its 2017 and I am just so pumped about the new year! This is the year that all my dreams come true, I can feel it. Well, other than the Donald Trump debacle, but that is another story for another day. 2017. This is it. This is the year. All the things, they are mine, I'm telling y'all, I can feel it!!
Stephen and I just celebrated our 3 year anniversary, happily, we had a wonderful Christmas and all that jazz.
I was chatting with a friend of mine back in December and she is going on about this Whole 30 thing that she is doing at the beginning of the new year. It's a wholesome eating kind of deal and I'm mildly interested until she tells me that there is no booze. NONE. Zero booze for 30 days. Y'all. Like half my daily caloric intake is alcohol, so obviously, I'm out on her boozeless journey.
My weight is not something that I am happy with, and before anyone makes a comment about loving the skin you're in, I am all for that. However, I have put on some lbs, like, more than a few. I don't want to work out, I work in an office, and I love food. and booze. especially wine. So, I know I could stand to make some changes. Weight loss is hard y'all. Like, ugh! so hard. I don't want to, I just want to be fat and happy. But I'm not, so changes must be made.
I ordered a 6 week program of Nutrisystem to help me get a jump start on this journey and hopefully help me lose enough to feel encouraged to continue to make better choices and maybe start working out again.
My weight loss goal is 40 lbs. before my birthday in 2018. That is totally attainable, so I'm gettin' after the attaining. MMKay?
So the Nutrisystem program I ordered is like the devil, for the reals. And here I am to give you my honest experience through the next 6 weeks, in case anyone is looking for a "real talk" input.
The program that I ordered is one week of the 'Fast Five' which means 3 prepackaged meals a day, 2 shakes, 4 servings of veg and 8 glasses of water each day for 7 days. After the first full week, I'm supposed to be down 5 lbs, then I shift to a 'weekends off' program for 5 more weeks, so I eat the prepackaged meals, snacks, 4 servings of veg, 8 glasses of water M-F and then I do my own thing on the weekends.
Plus you can have limited booze, so YAY!
I'm on day 4 and plan to update this post at least weekly, so if you're interested, you'll have to come back here for the next month and a half.
Prior to day 1: My box arrives and I am already dreading this whole thing. Why did I do this? I like being cushion-y. More cushion for the pushin' y'all. Yeah, I'm not doing this shit. Wait, I just paid $300 for this, so yeah, I'm doing it even if it kills me. I got cushion fo' dayz. I'm gonna shed some.
Day 1: OHEMGEE I AM SO DAMN HUNGRY. Before breakfast even, like obviously, this is all in my head. I had my 3 meals, shakes, veg and waters. I did have a headache when I went to bed, but nothing a couple ibuprofen couldn't fix.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Granola- it said to add skim milk, but eww, so I ate it dry. It was fine for granola and since I am not used to eating breakfast, the small portion didn't bother me a bit.
Lunch: Fudge Lunch bar. pretty delicious for a protein type bar, but still felt hungry... because lunch should be a meal, not a bar.
Dinner: Lasagna for dinner. It was fine, not great but edible. It had beans in it, kinda weird, but fine.
Day 2: FML. I want to give up. What does 'healthy weight' even mean? Sheeeit. If I was living in the Renaissance period, I would be considered SO.HOT. just like I am. But I held on, mostly because I have spent a fortune on this stuff, so I have to at least give it all I've got. I took the kiddo's to lunch at Wendy's today, because, obviously, I'm a masochist, and managed to not just eat all the things on the table. I had my 3 meals, shakes, veg and waters. I had a headache at bedtime and took a couple ibuprofen.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Nut Bar. It was fine, for a breakfast bar. It also had cranberries in it, so I was satisfied as far as breakfast went.
Lunch: Tortilla soup. As my least favorite person alive would say, 'Yuge' disappointment. Ew. It was not soup, it was not good, and it was such a small portion. Not satisfied.
Dinner: Cheese Flatbread Pizza. First off, this was fine flavor-wise, I added red pepper flakes. However, it was NOT bread or Pizza. It was a super dense crust with a ton of sauce and very little cheese. It was fine. This won't last forever.
Day 3: I was so excited about my 'Muffin' that I got for breakfast this morning, until I put it in my mouth. Those are not muffins. The taste is fine, however, they are dense AF, and not fluffy like my already dwindling muffin-top. Hungry today, but I ate more of my veg portions during the day to curb that feeling. Went to a work function where everyone thought I was pregnant because I wasn't drinking. BAHAHAHA. If only. I had my meals, shakes, veg and waters. Did not have a headache when I went to bed, but I did have a pineapple vodka with sprite zero as a nightcap.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Cinnamon Struesel Muffin. As I said, not a muffin.
Lunch: Graham Fudge Lunch Bar. YUM.
Dinner: Rotini and meatballs for dinner. It was fine. tolerable.
Day 4: I woke up and decided to get on the scale. 4lbs down. I'll take it. Feeling motivated today, and not hungry. YAY!! Honestly, this prepackaged food thing is totally working for me. I don't have to prep a bunch of super healthy stuff plus plan and cook meals for my fam. I had tuna and a wheat roll for lunch, yep, you read that right, I HAD BREAD! It is looking to be a pretty happy day for this one. I missed one of my shakes today, but I don't know that they are required as much as encouraged in an effort to curb hunger. I really didn't feel super hungry at any point today.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Blueberry Muffin. See above 'muffin' description
Lunch: Tuna salad with a ROLL-- Happy dance all day for bread
Dinner: Chicken Pot Pie, and it was delicious. Significantly less crust than my Southern Livin style chef prefers, but it was really good.
Day 5: Super sleepy this morning, really wanted to just hang out in the bed and cuddle all day, but I got up and went to work. I don't feel hungry this morning, but have been dreading the cinnamon roll bar that is to be breakfast. I feel thinner, lighter, happier, and I no longer have love handles wearing my favorite jeans today. I'm not much for sweet stuff in the mornings. Give me biscuits, kolaches, bacon and sausage all day y'all. I ate my meals, my veg and drank my waters. I only drank one shake today. I found an app today to help me track my water, snacks and meals and it has all the Nutrisystem stuffs already in it and I super love it. It is called NuMi for anyone looking to try it out.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Cinnamon Roll Bar. It was fine. It was sweet and tasted like a cinnamon roll, so if you like those, you'd love it. I drank hot green tea with it and have been trying to get all my water in before lunch, so that anything after that is just gravy.
Lunch: Homestyle Chicken Soup, probably pretty close to a cup of soup as far as portion size, it was very good, but also, very little noodles, shocker, I know.
Dinner: Chili with beans. This was the meal I was dreading the most, just from the picture on the bowl, and it was definitely my least favorite.
Day 6: I got up raring to go this morning, ready to clean house, do the laundry and run errands. I stayed pretty busy and drank one shake during the day mixed with black coffee instead of water. I wasn't ever just plain hungry. I ate all my veggies and drank 6 cups of water, substituting 2 cups with diet iced green tea.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Chocolate Muffin, and it tasted good, but is not a muffin. Dense Chocolate Chunk Sponge is what I would call it.
Lunch: White Bean Chicken Chili and it was spicy and delicious, as in, if I had the recipe, I would make this meal myself. I would probably eat more than one serving because it really was good.
Dinner: Chicken Alfredo. This was not my homemade, Southern Living style Alfredo, but it was fine. There was a substantial amount of chicken in the dish and it was fulfilling.
Day 7: Today, I think was the hardest. No good reason, but it just was. Jace took his dirtbike and the girls took their powerwheels down to the park, while Stephen and I walked the pup down, we played tennis, ran around and had a wonderful time. I learned that the step tracker on my NuMi app does not track appropriately, so that is not something one can count on for calculating calories burned. I ate all my veg, drank my waters, and had my meals. No shakes today, I think I am burned out on that chocolate protein powder and I wasn't hungry, so I didn't feel I needed them.
What I ate:
Breakfast: Banana Nut Dense Sponge (read 'Muffin')
Lunch: Cheese Tortellini... Idk what kind of cheese was in this, but I'd rather not eat it again. It was fine, as far as prepacked diet food goes.
Dinner: Thick Crust Pizza: I added red chili pepper flakes to this and it was pretty good as far as satisfying my bread cravings. I ate a shitton of mixed greens with my dinner as I was quite hungry at that point during the day and those are unlimited, so I could have as much as I wanted. I also had one serving of Bourbon (my favorite booze on earth) and a serving of Pineapple Vodka.
Day 8: Down 7.5 lbs. No, the food is not gourmet, but it is convenient, and there were only 3 of the 21 meals that I would rather never see again, so I am calling it a win. Next weekend is the SuperBowl and my first 'Weekend Off' so I am already planning out my calories so I don't completely blow all the work I have accomplished thus far.
I probably could have lost 10 lbs if I had cut out alcohol completely and did some moderate exercise. For a program that was about $50/week, I think it works, so far. I will be logging each week separately, as I don't want this one to get ridiculously long.
There are a ton of resources out there for unlimited add-ins, drinks and even recipes for long term maintenance. I plan to add in some weight lifting and moderate exercise this week to help further my goal. 32.5lbs to go!
