There are so many pieces to this story, so there will be additional posts about this fabulous journey we are on!
Three years ago, after Stephen and I married, we were making our plans to buy a home, figuring our budget, and all that good. We have been in rentals that entire time. Trying to get my credit up to par after my divorce took WAAAYYY longer, and WAAAYYY more work than we ever imagined it would. Around Christmastime 2016 we knew we were finally, really, > < this close. When we moved into our current home we signed a lease with an option to purchase once the lease was up, and that was our plan. Just for funsies, we decided to look around at other homes in the same price range to make sure we were getting a decent deal, and that we really did want to stay in the neighborhood we were in. Holy wowzas guys, we had no idea what kind of bang we could get for our bucks!
We found several homes that were just gorgeous, some older needing a bit of work, some brand new with smaller yards, and then we came across a local builder who had many lots in an area that we really loved. We had a sit down with them, looked at their floor plans, and had decided that once we had our pre-approval in place, we were going to build with them.
WHALE.... getting our pre-approval ended up taking forever and a day. Every time that I followed up with the lender it was something or another, and I really didn't want to start fresh with someone else and another hard credit pull. Finally, by the end of January, I got a little pushy and the lender finally told me that he was in the process of switching companies and to call him back in a month. Stephen and I were beyond frustrated at this point, just so ready to sign a contract and get our home started.
So I reached out to another lender I had previous communication with years ago, and began submitting all the things to her. During that time, Stephen and I also visited with some custom builders, mostly for dreaming, and realized that we could get something fairly close to our dream home within our budget. We went to look at different builder's homes and some open houses to really get the feel for different floor plans and builder's styles and qualities. We got some more disappointing news after looking at a subdivision outside city limits, that all the lots were gone and homes were already started on all of them. We took a detour on the way home to crack a couple cold ones and I saw a sign on what looked like an empty large lot in a similar subdivision.

I looked at Stephen and I said, I think I know who that builder is, maybe we should reach out to them.
I sent a message to my friends, and sure enough, that was their company. We had been out of touch for a couple years, but after a couple of short conversations with Felicia & Colby, we knew that is who was supposed to build our home.
One of the first things that Colby mentioned to us is that they decided to name their company, 29:11 Homes, so that people would ask questions, and they would have another way to spread His Word. We had our pre-approval letter in our hands the following week, and a two acre lot under contract shortly thereafter. We have absolutely no doubt that all of the timing was out of our hands and for our benefit. The exact verse that comes to mind is Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".
We are so very excited to be on this journey building our family home, Sugar Farmstead!
